What’s my background?
Once I completed my Hotel and Catering Management degree at Oxford Polytechnic (now Oxford Brookes University), I started my career as a graduate trainee with InterCity On Board Services – the catering arm of British Rail. After my training I moved into a role in Human Resources and studied for my CIPD (Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development) postgraduate qualification. When I left, I had several generalist HR roles in a variety of sectors. When one of these roles was made redundant, I had the opportunity to move into the world of economic development. I worked for Rotherham Investment & Development Office (RiDO), providing HR, recruitment and training support to local businesses – ranging from SMEs to large companies. I self-funded a postgraduate qualification in business and personal coaching and when I left RiDO, I had 18 months of self-employment coaching people who had been made redundant and helping people become more confident in networking situations.
I decided I wanted to be part of a team again and use my networking skills in a new role and was lucky enough to have been given a great opportunity to work with the team at Gradconsult. I work on the award winning RISE business support scheme and my main focus is SME engagement. I am back doing what I love – supporting lots of Sheffield City Region’s SMEs and helping them to recruit talented graduates to help their business grow. It’s great to be part of a wider team of professionals all who are passionate about making a difference in the world of graduate recruitment.
