University of Birmingham: PGR virtual consultancy challenge

Five interdisciplinary teams of post-graduate researchers worked to solve a live business challenge around the application of AI.

This 10-week, virtual programme was designed to create scalable and sustainable work-based experience opportunities for PGRs and to support them to acquire skills in line with the University of Birmingham graduate module including: self-reflection, sustainable and ethical practise and commercial awareness.

Each of the five modules were made up of 30-minute webinars with associated mini-activities, takeaway tasks, as well as curiosity group meetings to develop their business proposal. The programme culminated in a live event with the business where each team showcased their video submission and received feedback.

‘Working with Gradconsult on the Virtual Consultancy Challenge has been an extremely positive experience from start to finish. This programme for our Postgraduate Researchers required a fresh approach and a new way of designing the learning experience. Gradconsult’s approach helped us to develop our digital pedagogy, delivering engaging content that skillfully tailored to the postgraduate student audience.

Students really valued the opportunity to develop their commercial awareness whilst working on an innovative employer brief. The flexibility of the content, the framework, the materials and high-quality video content can be utitlised through our ongoing in-house delivery of this programme, which is especially welcomed to maximise our investment in the content. They were a real pleasure to work with.’
